Mixtape Monday: The Break-Up

A favorite couple of mine (and musicians at that!), Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard have separated after two years of marriage. I didn’t see this one coming that’s for sure and it’s just so sad! :( :(

Oh well, I found out that MTV made a break-up playlist for the two by compiling the most heartbreaking She & Him and DCFC songs. And so I thought of making one myself. Here goes.

  1. Change Is Hard - She & Him; “In the halls,I’d rather hear silence than the bell of new love. So don’t brag, keep it to yourself”
  2. I Will Follow You Into The Dark - Death Cab for Cutie; Not really heartbreaking, I actually find this sweet and somehow reassuring. Anyhow, this is a very lovely song.
  3. Sentimental Heart - She & Him; This band’s songs, even though sad, still have upbeat melody and quirky tunes. On the other hand, DCFC’s songs are always kind of dark and depressing even when the message is positive. Haha, cute isn’t it?
  4. A Lack Of Color - Death Cab for Cutie; “For the first time in years, all the girls in every girlie magazine can’t make me feel any less alone.”
  5. Black Hole - She & Him; “I’m alone on a bicycle for two”
  6. The Ice Is Getting Thinner - Death Cab for Cutie; SAD SONG IS SAD. :( I don’t think I can quote a line or two from this song because every line is relevant!! One of the best break-up songs, if not the best.
  7. Take It Back - She & Him
  8. Transatlanticism - Death Cab for Cutie; “And the distance is quite simply much too far for me to row. I need you so much closer.”
  9. Tiny Vessels - Death Cab for Cutie
  10. Crooked Teeth - Death Cab for Cutie; “No you can’t find nothing at all
If there was nothing there all along.”

Ughhh. Too many good songs from these bands. DCFC especially has always been good with songs of sorrow so I guess that’s the only perk we could get from this break-up. (Which is actually not that bad. :P) Now, everybody is either looking forward to 1) fantasizing about the single Zooey Deschanel once again or 2) listening to the next DCFC album. Hahaha

Mixtape Monday: Mr. A-Z

I don’t know what had gotten to my head for me to even dare miss Jason Mraz’s concert. It’s bad enough that I have to feel this immense regret over missing John Mayer’s and later knowing his throat condition, then this. Maybe I can blame it to the fact that I’m not being myself these past few days. *sigh* So I’ll just do a Mixtape Monday for the Jason Mraz songs that I love.

  1. Make It Mine
  2. A Beautiful Mess
  3. The Remedy
  4. Life Is Wonderful
  5. Live High
  6. You And I Both
  7. I’ll Do Anything (Acoustic)
  8. If It Kills Me
  9. Wordplay

What I’ve always loved about Mraz is of course his soothing voice and the very light and fresh melody of his music. You’d hear a song of his on the radio and instantly know that it is his. That’s how unique his voice and music is. But more than that is the content of his songs. When I’ve heard Life Is Wonderful for the first time, I instantly fell in love with it because the lyrics are inspiring and just really something you’d want to listen to when you want to break free from the crap of the real world. Plus, he does great on playing with words, hence, the song Wordplay.
